Stories of Courage, Risk, and Revelation
“Alone, Not Lonely” describes a challenge from my first months in rural Nepal. As I become accustomed to the field work, I am watched constantly by village people, who ask for help with their medical problems at all hours of the day and evening. I am exhausted after long days of work and trekking, but the lack of privacy and time to myself is even more stressful. I show my anger in culturally inappropriate ways and am beset with self-doubts about my ability to cope. Only much later in life do I understand that my introverted nature was an important reason for my distress.
Read Alone, Not Lonely.
About the Book
Step into the Secret Lives of 25 Writers . . and read of the intimate life events that make Secret Histories an unforgettable collection of stories. As each of these writers peels back layers of experiences either momentary or long-term, their individual stories form a powerful web of understanding, acceptance, and love.
How moving to see a group of writers pressing so relentlessly toward truth. The voices gathered here are by turns funny, searing, contemplative, and wildly imaginative, but they’re all united by one thing: the urge to peel back the layers of everyday existence and find the sweet, the difficult, the beautiful reality at the heart of things.
